Overview

Lubbock Building Inspections directs building and common standalone permits through CSS. Building-linked subcontractors obtain their permits after the general contractor permit has issued. Check the full project’s required systems before starting.

Applicable Code

City electrical adoption and applicable state requirements.

License Requirement

City guidance identifies the licensed master electrician as responsible for work.

License Fee

Fee amount not verified in this review. TDLR credential fees and applicable City registration separately.

CEUs

Covered individual Texas licenses: four hours; contractor category exempt.

Permit Fee

Specific permit amount not verified in this review. Use the CSS scope assessment; an expired building square-foot rate is not a standalone electrical price. This unverified amount is excluded from the worked example.

Plan Review Time

Subcontractor record follows issued main permit; standalone scope uses the selected service.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not ask an owner to obtain a contractor’s permit improperly.
  • Do not conceal installations before the required inspection.

Permit fees and worked estimates

The retrieved Building Safety schedule expressly covered October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. It is an expired benchmark; the next fiscal-year assessment was not verified.

Historical FY2026 example only: 2,000 sq ft gross under roof × $0.15 = $300 single-family building component. This is not a current October 2026 quote. It excludes trade, fire, utility, registration, special/reinspection and other charges; no current review or surcharge is inferred. Obtain the new fiscal-year assessment before budgeting.

Submission checklist

Select residential or commercial application and prepare required drawings.
Provide GC registration and required insurance or bond.
Identify trade contractors and sequence their records after main issuance.
Keep approved plans and required affidavits available for inspections.

Homeowner and licensing

The City allows specified building, plumbing and mechanical work on an owned and occupied homestead performed personally or by immediate family. Rental owners have a narrower structural-building route and must hire qualified MEP contractors. Confirm eligibility before filing; a hired contractor cannot transfer licensing duties to the owner.

Codes and amendments

Use City permit requirements and current adoption resources to confirm filing-date rules. The expired fee schedule identifies fee categories, not the current code edition. State licensing does not establish City permit issuance.

Inspections and closeout

Arrange required stages before concealment and complete finals. For roofing, the City explains a final-inspection request with the completed owner/contractor-signed affidavit attached. Occupancy approval follows required inspections and depends on the intended use.
