Overview
DIS coordinates construction plans and affected City departments. Its current page directs applicants to the permit/inspection service and states the move to 780 Allens Avenue. Identify zoning and external approvals before relying on a building-only application. The former Westminster address in older documents is not current intake guidance.

Submission checklist
Homeowner and licensing
Use the appropriate Rhode Island credential for hired work. The mechanical FAQ contains a narrow personal-work owner-occupied single-family route, while older FAQ/code references are mixed; confirm eligibility with DIS rather than extending it to rental, multifamily or commercial trade work.
Codes and amendments
Rhode Island code adoption and amendments must be matched to the filing date and discipline. DIS records the November 14, 2024 energy-code adoption with a three-month transition. Some City FAQ edition references are older; confirm current building, electrical, mechanical and fire requirements with the appropriate state and City authority.
Inspections and closeout
The City FAQ requires rough inspections before concealment and final inspections before the applicable Certificate of Occupancy. Confirm the issued record’s stage sequence and external approvals. Do not start demolition or other permitted work on the strength of a submitted application alone.
